What if I have films? Can you use those?
Proofing House Press is computer to plate so it is best to provide us with a file. If you can only supply film we will be able to proceed but there may be some additional costs.

Can Proofing House Press output film or shoot traditional litho films?
No. We are no longer able to output films in house, nor do we have the ability to shoot films from a litho camera. We are a computer to plate facility. If films are required, we have to send them to an outside source and additional costs would apply.

If I provide a print out from my own printer, will you match it?
Due to the wide variances in output devices including inkjet and laser printers (which are generally RGB based), the likely answer is no. Even previously printed pieces produced from another file or another commercial printer can vary. Using standard densities, we reach an overall pleasing color using supplied hard copy only as a guide. We suggest that you receive a proof we've generated from your file for the closest comparison to end results. Keep in mind however that paper finishes and hues can have an effect on color that a proof cannot simulate.

What about proofing PMS colors?
Our proofing device does not accurately depict PMS shades (as most proofing devices do not). You may wish to press check jobs running PMS inks to ensure your overall satisfaction with the density of the color chosen.

Once I've reviewed my proof, what next?
A written approval or explanation of alterations/changes needs to be emailed or faxed and then return your proof to us. Please return your proof with changes (if any) as soon as possible to avoid production delays. If you do have changes please let us know if you require another proof.
Why must I send my proof back once I've reviewed it?
We use the proof as a reference throughout production. An approved proof is what we go by as a guide. If there were changes made we can verify updates have been properly made.

How can I get my files to you?
Please refer to our Graphics Guidelines.

What kind of files/programs do you accept/recommend?
Please refer to our Graphics Guidelines.

Will you accept an RGB file?
We prefer that files sent to us are CMYK. As there can be significant color shifting while converting an RGB to CMYK, we feel it best if the client make that conversion.

How can I check my job before it is printed to make sure everything is alright?

How long will a UPS ground shipment take?
Ground shipment transit times vary depending on where we are shipping to. In most cases, we will let you know when your product will be shipped and when you should receive it but please do not hesitate to ask.

What is your over / under policy?
The printing industry standard varies from 5% over/under to 10% over/under. Proofing House Press follows the 10% over/under guideline. You may request an exact count (no shortage or no overage) and we will ensure delivery of an exact count.

How long does it take for you to complete my order?
There is no firm answer to this question. Some printed materials can be produced within a day and some may take multiple days. There are many variables in the graphics, proofing, printing and finishing process. For small press projects the period approximates 5-7 business days from time of approved proof. For large press projects the period approximates 6-9 business days from time of approved proof. It is important to communicate when you need your printed materials completed and we will let you know if we can meet that deadline.

What is a "proof"?
A proof is a printout from a laser printer that will provide you an idea of what the finished product will look like. A proof is used to ensure that the wording and positioning is what you are looking for. Proofs should be check carefully for appearance, spelling, grammar and size. In most cases we will produce a proof which will be sent to you online or printed on paper which can be viewed at Proofing House Press or delivered to you in person.
Why do I need to look at a proof ?
None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. It is important that you review the proof carefully. Approval on a final proof is assurance that you have looked over every aspect of the proof and approve it as accurate. All of us benefit if errors are caught in the proofing process rather than after the job is completed and delivered.

Do I still need to approve a proof if I send you my work in a file or bring it to you on a disk?
Yes, although it seems like it may be a waste of time. Transferring files from one program to another or between different versions of the same program can cause variances. The proof we provide is what will be printed not the file you send. The approval of the proof will provide all of us the assurance that the output device we used has correctly interpreted and processed the information you provided.
